Back in 1998 and 1999, I didn't own a computer, I had WebTV. For those that have no idea what I'm talking about, WebTV was a small black box that hooked up to your television which provided very basic internet access/web browsing. WebTV became MSN TV after it was bought by Microsoft in 1997.

Anyway, with my WebTV, I was able to learn a great deal about latin freestyle music, the music I had loved for YEARS, but knew next to nothing about. Thanks to the power of the internet and that small black box, I was able to stream a lot of freestyle shows, incredibly.

One of my favorite sites to visit back in 1998-1999 was wktu.com -which is long gone.

I listened to almost all the shows by DJ John Ferrari and DJ Mike C.

Tonight, just for the heck of it, I decided to look that site up on internet archive (aka web archive), and look what I found!

Wow WebTV, I had a friend that used it that, talk about a blast from the past. Love the Web Archive, I was recently looking up DOF and WCMRADIO.

I truly made good use of my WebTV for learning about Freestyle and listening as much as I could. Miss those days.. Later, just before I got a PC, I used my Sega Dreamcast game console for the same purpose--learning about and listening to Freestyle--more than playing games.

I love the Web Archive also, it is, without a doubt, a priceless resource.

I didn't know you could do all that with the Dreamcast. I probably would have bought it if I had known at the time. ;)

Yeah, the Dreamcast was the first console to come with a modem standard. It had a web browser, actually a number of them, different ones for different parts of the world.
Much like Freestyle music, Sega 'died' when they left the hardware biz, but like Freestyle, they live on in the hearts and minds of their fans
